Benefits
License Fees: Limited license fees in the Commonwealth of Virginia reimbursed
($55 initial/$35 renewal). Permanent Commonwealth of Virginia license
fees ($302) and drug license fees ($888) reimbursed for Second and Third
Year Residents. Renewal of Commonwealth of Virginia permanent license
fee reimbursed if renewal required during residency.
Step 3 Fee reimbursed for initial examination (USMLE $910 or COMLEX $925)
ABFM Board Exam fee ($1300) reimbursed (no late fees reimbursed)

Annual Paid Leave: 21 days per year and may be used to cover vacation,
holidays, illness and certain other absences. Additional CME days are
granted as well: 3 days for PGY-2 Residents and 5 days for PGY-3 Residents,
Continuing Medical Education.
Health & Dental Insurance: No cost to employee and families.
Life Insurance: Two times basic annual salary rounded to nearest $1,000.
Subject to a maximum of $500,000 at no cost to employee.
Malpractice Insurance: Liability Coverage while participating in Valley
Health Systemís graduate medical education program.
Disability Insurance: Available immediately at no cost for employee only.
Child Care Center: Provided on a space available basis at employee cost
(varies: dependent upon age of child).
Employee Discounts: Residents are eligible for a 25% discount on Medical
Services after insurance payments have been deducted from their account.
Worker’s Compensation: Resident covered against job-related accidents
and illness.
Vaccines: Hepatitis B vaccine provided; Rubella/Rubeola if needed, Diphtheria
Toxoid as needed; TB skin test required annually; Influenza vaccine, as
needed. As a hospital employee, a pre-employment physical, including drug
screen, is required to be completed prior to first day of employment.
Uniforms: Two lab coats.
Section 125 Program: Dependent Care and Unreimbursed medical accounts may
be set up on a pre-tax basis at resident orientation and yearly thereafter.
Tax-Sheltered Annuities: Voluntary tax-sheltered annuity for employees
through VALIC and Lincoln National. For the first 4% of employee contributions,
Valley Health System will match 50% to a maximum of 2% of "base pay."Five-year
vesting rules apply to funds matched by Valley Health System.
Family Medical Leave (includes maternity/paternity leave)
Military Leave: Available in accordance with applicable federal statutes.
Misc. & Other Expenses: AAFP (and AOA if applicable) – resident
membership dues paid annually.
