Perioperative Nursing Program

Learning Opportunities

Winchester Medical Center (WMC) offers a Perioperative Nurse program to help prepare nurses for work in the Operative Room (OR) and includes rotating through different specialty areas. The program is approximately six months long, split between working hands-on in the OR with a preceptor and learning via online modules. The program prepares nurses for the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) PeriOp 101 Exam and provides 40 credit hours towards nursing CEs. Perioperative nursing encompasses preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care for surgical patients, including pre-op nurses and post-op nurses who work in PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit) and the START clinic.
