Melissa Carroll

About

Melissa is a resident in counseling and a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) supervisee with Shenandoah Memorial Outpatient Behavioral Health. A resident of Shenandoah County, Virginia, for the past five years, Melissa was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. Melissa received a masters degree in clinical psychology at Walden University, specializing in addiction with a minor in criminal justice. The field of mental health has always been a passion for Melissa since she was a young girl due to personal experiences and a longing to understand the “Why?”

Melissa has been in the field of mental health for almost a decade in residential treatment, crisis services, case management, equine therapy, and various other outpatient therapy services, including mental health skill building groups, substance use/recovery groups, and anger management. Melissa has worked with all populations of various ages, genders, cultures, and socioeconomic statuses. Melissa’s emphasis is a person-centered approach to identify the individualized needs of every client and to work with them to achieve their personalized goals by implementing interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), art therapy, and mindfulness techniques.
