Laboratory Services at Page and Shenandoah: Right to the Point

Laboratory Services at Page and Shenandoah: Right to the Point

When it comes to health care, laboratory services play a pivotal role in providing accurate diagnosis, treatment planning and patient monitoring. Using sophisticated equipment and analytical techniques (like polymerase chain reaction to amplify DNA), lab tests can help detect diseases such as diabetes and cancer, as well as determine the effectiveness of medications. As we like to say in health care, without the lab, you’re just guessing. Here’s a few numbers from the labs at Page Memorial and Shenandoah Memorial hospitals in 2023.

19,300: The number of outpatients served at blood draw stations

2,000+: The number of different tests that can be performed on blood and other body fluids

32 medical technologists, medical lab technicians, phlebotomists and pathologists performed more than 247,000 tests.

70%: The percent of all medical decisions that are made based on laboratory results (according to the CDC)

Lab professional test and prepare blood products, including plasma and platelet, that are then administered to patients. In the past year, SMH and PMH labs prepared 240 blood products for administration.
