This prestigious award recognizes Harry’s outstanding leadership, dedication, and significant contributions to healthcare governance in Virginia.
Harry Smith, a Winchester native born at the Cork Street hospital, has been a pivotal figure in Valley Health’s governance for two decades, demonstrating steadfast commitment to enhancing health in the Shenandoah Valley and Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. His visionary leadership has been instrumental in guiding Valley Health through numerous strategic initiatives, including the consolidation of the governance and quality oversight of its hospitals, affiliation of three community hospitals and as a founding board member of Valley Health’s Physician Practices when Valley Health began expanding its physician employment base.
“Harry’s dedication to our mission and support for our community’s health has been truly inspiring,” said Mark Nantz, President and CEO of Valley Health System. “This award is a testament to his exceptional governance and the positive impact he has made on our organization and the broader healthcare landscape in Virginia.”
The VHHA Excellence in Governance Award is presented annually to individuals who exemplify outstanding leadership and governance in the healthcare sector. Recipients are selected based on their ability to foster innovation, improve patient care, and enhance the overall effectiveness of their organizations.
“I am deeply honored to receive this award from the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association,” said Harry Smith. “It has been a privilege to work alongside such dedicated professionals at Valley Health, and I am proud of what we have accomplished together. This recognition is a reflection of our collective efforts to provide the highest quality care to our community.”
Valley Health congratulates Harry Smith on this well-deserved recognition and looks forward to his continued leadership and contributions to the organization’s mission of serving our community by improving health.
“The VHHA Excellence in Governance Award honors hospital trustees who have gone above and beyond in representing their communities on local hospital governing boards. So many great things are happening at Valley Health, and it is clear to all who have seen them that Harry Smith has significantly contributed to that progress during his two decades of service on Valley Health boards,” said Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association (VHHA) President and CEO Sean T. Connaughton. “His hospital board service is just one example of his commitment to civic life, which also includes previous service as a member of Winchester City Council, among other volunteer community roles. I can personally attest that Harry is a deserving recipient of this award and we are proud to recognize the positive contributions he has made across the Shenandoah Valley.”
