Local Radio Host Recognized for COVID Awareness Partnership

Congratulations to Janet Michael, host of “The Valley Today” on The River 95.3/WZRV-FM, for receiving a Virginias Associated Press Broadcaster’s (VAPB) Award for her 2020 interview with Valley Health Community and Population Health Officer Jeff Feit, MD, on the COVID-19 vaccine.
Dr. Feit has been a regular guest on “The Valley Today” throughout the pandemic; he and Michael cover considerable ground in their lively, 20-minute conversations, helping listeners understand a range of COVID-19 transmission and prevention facts.
Michael earned first place for best documentary or in-depth in a Non-Metro market for "Community Health: COVID-19 Vaccine Has Arrived". The VAPB is an independent association of VA and WV members of The Associated Press, a not-for-profit news cooperative that represents thousands of newspapers and broadcast stations across the US.
“I’m really happy for Janet and honored to partner with her,” Feit said. “Among the many challenges of the pandemic was the need to communicate clearly and directly with the public about complex medical issues including testing, masking, and vaccinations. Janet provided a tremendous community service by creating a place where listeners could stay up to date with accurate information.”
“Working with Valley Health, in particular Dr. Feit, throughout this pandemic has been a privilege,” said Michael. “It has not only enabled me to personally learn and understand the virus and vaccines, but also allowed me to pass that knowledge on to my listeners across the Shenandoah Valley.
