Dr. Mantell is a board-eligible, fellowship trained, orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine.

Originally from Boston, Dr. Mantell is a graduate of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. He received his medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC, and stayed in the District to complete his residency at George Washington University Hospital, where he was chief resident in his final year. He continued his training at the prestigious New England Baptist Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital, where Dr. Mantell completed his fellowship training in sports medicine.

Dr. Mantell is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America, International Society for Hip Arthroscopy, and the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. Dr. Mantell has published numerous articles and book chapters in the peer-reviewed Orthopaedic literature. He has worked as a clinical instructor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. He has presented his research at regional and national meetings and has won the prestigious Arciero-Warner award while a fellow in Boston. Dr. Mantell serves as a reviewer of current research for the Arthroscopy Journal and Orthopaedics journal.

As a sports medicine physician, Dr. Mantell has taken care of athletes at all levels. He is currently the head team physician for Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia. While in fellowship, Dr. Mantell served as a team doctor for the Boston Celtics and Tufts University Athletics. He has worked as an assistant team physician for multiple other professional organizations such as the Boston Breakers Nationals Women’s Soccer Team, the Washington Mystics WNBA Basketball team, and the Washington Kastles World Team Tennis team.

His areas of orthopaedic interest involve minimally invasive arthroscopy of the shoulder, hip and knee. These include joint preserving procedures such as arthroscopic hip surgery for impingement and cartilage repair and restoration techniques in the knee.
