The Neonatal Intensive Care unit at Winchester Medical Center is the region's only level III NICU, able to take premature babies of any gestational age or babies needing specialized care and treatment. The NICU is located on the 2nd floor of the North Tower on the WMC campus. This state-of-the-art facility is one of only a few NICUs in the tri-state area to have private patient rooms to make it easier for babies and families to heal. There are 21 single rooms, 3 twin rooms and 1 triplet room for a total of 30 beds.
Our team of neonatologists, nurse practitioners, staff nurses and respiratory and occupational therapists use the latest in technological advances to care for even the littlest patients. Most babies are admitted to the NICU because they are born prematurely; some are born full-term with breathing or other difficulties that need treatment. We realize that having an ill or premature infant is unexpected and frightening. Our team is committed to giving you and your child all the medical and emotional support available to us. From the moment of admission, we want you to participate in your baby’s care. As your baby’s condition improves you will be able to assume more responsibility for his or her care.

NicView™ is a small camera system placed at a baby’s bedside in the NICU, providing parents with real-time, live-stream viewing, 24/7, securely over the Internet. This free service helps families bond with their baby even when they can’t be at the baby’s bedside. Parents have a unique user name and password they can use to log in and view their baby remotely via any Internet capable smart phone, laptop, computer or tablet. If they choose, parents can also share their user name and password with other family members.
“When I was pregnant with my first baby, I never thought I would have a baby in the NICU. When my son was born prematurely, the doctors, nurses and staff at the WMC NICU guided me through every step of my son’s healing until he was eventually big enough and healthy enough to go home. The private rooms, caring staff and amazing doctors got us through a very overwhelming and emotional time. We are so thankful we chose Winchester Medical Center as the place to meet our son!” - Carrie and Jason, Parents of Baby H.
Developed by a former NICU graduate, Sweet Dreams Baby is a collection of lullabies and poems that parents can use to contribute to a baby’s success in the NICU. When hearing a familiar voice, babies generally have increased oxygen levels and lowered heart rates. Research shows that exposure to language and music can help babies grow, even at the most early stages of life. This album is a unique collection that differs from traditional lullaby albums, which tend to include an overwhelming array of instruments, rhythms, melodies and harmonies. Sweet Dreams Baby uses a single vocal line with calmer melodies and rhythms to specifically address the needs of growing infants.
